1. Amazing Literary Feets

Or: How to author reams of text without actually saying much of anything at all ... and get paid for it.

• The Code “will make a meaningful difference to all stakeholders, including our SME and large manufacturers, independent retailers, ag producers and large retailers,” Graydon said.

What constitutes an SME?  Take your pick.

SME in this context probably means "Small to Medium-Sized Enterprise", but the definition is as vague as the acronym:

• The term "SME" differentiates small and medium-sized businesses from large corporations. Since each country determines what it defines as an SME, there isn't one set global meaning to establish which businesses classify as SMEs. For example, in the United States, an SME may have up to 1,200 employees, while in the European Union, an SME can have a maximum of 250 employees.
• The Code will help make Canada’s food supply chain more resilient by enhancing [definition: raising the value or price of] transparency, predictability and fair dealing,” the ministers said. The Code will benefit both the industry and consumers as well.

Note: The Code will benefit both the industry and consumers as well -- This is stated even though there is no indication that the consumer is even mentioned in the Code and there are no quote marks around the statement.

The ministers did not make that statement; the writer did. To what purpose is anybody's guess.

2. Super Minds

Note: Clearly the advertiser does not ingest the product, hence the number of grammatical errors in the speal.

But ... of course I was keen to read more about it; specifically the sole ingredient listed on the bottle (organic mushroom extract powder).  And now I know why my memory has slowed down. I don't remember the last time I ate mushrooms.

Next grocery shopping trip, I will buy some mushrooms. I'll put a note in my pocket (though I've been known to forget that I have a note in my pocket).

"Lions" should have an apostro ... apos ... thing between the "n" and the "s".  And why is "Lyfe" spelled with a "y" and not an "i"?  Clearly they don't take their own medicine.  Or maybe they aren't talking about "Life" at all, but some entirely new form of existence?

This magic potion is sold elsewhere as "Cognivex" ... another source that seems to reveal some cognitive difficulties in its speal:

• This supplement has natural and powerful ingredients and [is] clinically proven which [S.B."to"] work to make your brain stronger and healthier.

I wunner why Cognivex doesn't reveal the magic ingredient. Instead, they provide only the magic ingredient's ingredients: L-Glutamine  (found in mushrooms) plus: Bacopa Monnieri -- good for -- well, everything.

By golly, just reading all this has made me smart enough not to pay 80 bucks for mushroom pills.

Wish I was that smart when I tried CBD gummies. What's this? CBN gummies are sold by CBDOracle?  [I feel like Vinnie Barbarino: YouTube]

They didn't come right out and say, "Final Rest" but it's implied:

• Unfortunately, with this newfound popularity [missing comma and no "it"] has also brought a rise of inadequate, poorly made CBN gummies that consumers should stay away from.

Note to self: Must remember to remind myself to buy some mushrooms.

3. MDs + Drug Industry

God forbid the medical profession should fail to advertise for the drug pushers.

See VIDEO:  A number of the viewer comments are actually quite sane.

But the not-so-sane just go straight for the drug:

• A study published in the journal Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism indicates that once patients stop using Wegovy and Ozempic, any weight lost is likely to return.

Well, of course -- because the self-soothing eating habits and self-destructiveness were never dealt with. How fortunate for the money-makers is that!  And now they're going after kids:

USA Today: New guidelines issued in the U.S. focus on the treatment of obesity in children aged 12 and older, as opposed to prevention.

Kim Kardashian is rumoured to have used Ozempic for weight loss. Well, okay then; if Kim Kardashian used it, it must be great! Never mind that she is a prime example of what not to emulate for a bunch of other reasons - mainly, because she's a bit of a freak show. 

Forbes: “Studies show that stopping Ozempic completely will likely lead to regaining most of the weight lost within several months” ...

Yessir, Ozempic is a lifetime opportunity -- for the pushers.

Does anyone ever think of simply reducing one's calorie intake and getting regular exercise? But that would require self-discipline, not to mention self-respect. Besides, you have it directly from "experts" (read money-makers) that:

GlobalNews: U.S. experts recommend weight-loss drugs for some obese children. What about Canada?

• ... "lifestyle modification is important but often isn’t enough, and therefore we need to be more aggressive”...

"Lifestyle modification" just doesn't work for the drug industry.

All one has to do is to reduce one's junk and calorie intake, and get daily exercise. I did it myself 15 years ago -- I allowed myself only 1600 calories a day, did daily Yoga exercises, never even entertained the thought of seeing a doctor or taking a drug, and steadily lost weight. (I have the before and after photos, but don't want anyone to see "fat moi".)

I'm currently horrified at the increasing numbers of grossly obese people one sees everywhere.  Too many people have been taught to equate food with love -- but it's self-defeating to comfort oneself with food when things go wrong. It merely adds a life-threatening dimension to an already existing deep (sometimes hidden) depression.

I confess that I currently suffer from a craving for chocolate, especially chocolate ice cream, and my jeans have become a little too tight for comfort. I know what I have to do and it doesn't include fattening up the drug industry.

Sadly, this sort of statement in the press comes at the very end of this GlobalNews page:

• “So the use of medication can very effectively put somebody on the right track and help them to do behaviours properly. Bariatric surgery can do that, and cognitive behavioural therapy can also do it.”

How does one "do" behaviours?  What has happened to the English language? What the heck have teachers been teaching since I went to school?

This is from a December press release. I'm posting it here in case it hasn't already been read by some.  It's a bit disheartening that these good medical people took all this time before pointing out what so many of us instinctively knew since the beginning of the so-called "Covid" pandemic.

But better late than never, one hopes.
