Former inmate of "Christian" reform school tells of similar atrocities and hidden grave sites at two such schools.


OttawaCitizen: Residential school investigations should include reform schools: former ward of St. Joseph's in Alfred

• Now nearly 75, [David] McCann was a ward for two years at St. Joseph’s, about 70 kilometres east of Ottawa. There, beginning in the late 1950s, when he was 12 years old, he was raped and routinely beaten by members of the De La Salle Brothers of the Christian Schools, the Roman Catholic Papal religious lay order that ran both St. Joseph’s and St. John’s.
• It’s McCann’s hope that investigations into residential school deaths will expand to include those who “disappeared” from St. Joseph’s and a similar reform school, St. John’s, in Toronto and Uxbridge.
• "There were between 2,000 and 3,000 First Nations kids at St. Joseph’s over the years, and I know they didn’t all go home. And whoever is looking into the residential schools should look into those kids and make sure they get their names back. They deserve nothing less, their families deserve nothing less and the First Nations deserve nothing less."
• “I’m asking the provincial and federal governments to add those two schools to where they’re looking for bodies,” he said from his home in Vancouver. “I know they’re there. I will guarantee you, 100,000 per cent, that they’re there.”

David McCann is one courageous and honourable fellow.  It can't be easy for him to talk about his experiences at St. Joseph's, but Canada needs to hear him, and hear him good -- and act on what he says -- because it's crucial to the integrity of the whole nation.

Globe&Mail: July 5 -   B.C. officials suspect human cause for devastating Lytton wildfire

What does "human cause" mean?  This is an extremely cryptic article:

• Matt Pasco, chair of the Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC), which includes the Lytton First Nation, said while determining the cause of the fire is important, trying to prevent the next disaster, by empowering Indigenous people, is more pressing.
• “Regardless of what caused the fire, all the possibilities that could cause that fire can cause the next one,” he said. “And we need remedies, we need action plans, that are driven by the [First] Nations, driven by the communities, to be able to combat those things.”

Why after all of these centuries are we still talking about "empowering Indigenous people"? Is this a backhanded way of saying, yet again, that these people are nothing but trouble?

The Globe quotes Natural Resources Canada, which, of course, is the gummint, so NRCan also, of course, supports the CO2 version of the problem.  The Globe seems a bit confused, actually.

The CBC: June 30/21 uses the word "unprecedented" with regard to hot temperatures, as if that were actually true. I haven't yet been able to find the records to which they refer, but the Guardian makes it clear that climate records, in general, don't go back very far:

• "Saying it is 'unprecedented' allows the people who look after our infrastructure a ready-made excuse for not being able to deal with [extreme weather]. It is not unprecedented."

But, if the government finds it more profitable to instil the idea that CO2 is driving the weather, it will find (create?) ways to do that.  And the CBC will be there, of course, to support the government:
