What is Cancel Culture ... and how does it apply to vandalized churches? (If it weren't for bad news, there'd be no news at all. HeeHaw) Every day there's a new buzz term or acronym to understand and remember: Dictionary.com: Cancel culture refers to the popular practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) public figures and companies after they have done or said something considered objectionable or offensive. NYPost: Everything to know about the toxic online trend
So, not just what, but also who. People who have TV's could just turn them off. If ratings go down, quality might, maybe, possibly go up. I haven't watched TV in a decade, and here's where I'm at personally: I don't celebrate Christmas, Easter, or any other religious holidays. First of all, they're not religious: Christmas features a creepy, fat, bearded guy who stares at you while you sleep, watches your every action while you're awake, and decides if you've been "bad or good". Easter is all about bunnies who lay eggs -- which is simply, ridiculously impossible. Oh sure, prior to the "Xmas" event there's lip service paid to the birth of a legend named Jesus with some iffy Astrology tossed in for good measure -- 3 "wise" men, bearing gifts, who followed a star to where Jesus was born -- but when the big day arrives it's the creepy fat guy who steals the show. And it's a cute bunny that detracts from the fact that "Good" Friday was not good at all (if it occurred at all), but a ghastly horrific day, and that "Easter" Sunday refers to a Germanic goddess of Spring named Ostara, or Eostre, or Eastre -- take your pick -- who believed that rabbits could lay eggs! Having said that, if people want to delude themselves, or need to find ancient reasons to celebrate life itself rather than what's already in front of them, it doesn't bother me at all. It especially doesn't bother the massive department stores who profit obscenely from it. The same goes for "Thanksgiving" when relatives gather to eat and drink (too much), and plow into the same old family arguments. With regard to waving flags and singing songs about the glory of the British Monarchy (even after all of the ickiness that's been revealed) and about how Canada is "strong" and her people are "free", even while being forcibly separated from their own previous lives by tyrannical "medical professionals" who take their orders from a world-central agency aptly named "WHO"? There's not a facet of life that isn't pounced upon and cynically manipulated by profiteers. Nobody even remembers the "trickle-down theory" (read: fairy tale) these days. It all trickles upwards, ignoring the laws of nature and the good of humanity. Everywhere there are "Space for Rent: Gone Out of Business" signs, and skilled, conscientious workers having been forced onto the dole from a government that is driving Canada into massive debt to the World Bank to the tune of ... oops, that information is not currently available. If people are eager to cancel things, how about starting with the daily fright shows in the print media? "The first casualty when war comes, is truth," wrote Phillip Knightley, and Canada's government certainly appears to be waging war against its own people. I personally don't care how many statues are erected to our "forefathers", or how many are taken down. Nor do I care how many religious centres are overseen by men called "Father" -- especially in a world that pays lip service to sexual equality. Just don't expect me to care when they are "cancelled" as people wake up to the demeaning truth of this brand of "fatherhood".
1.148 graves with probably more to come and the "Fathers" are miffed that, in most cases, some paint was sprayed on their doors and windows? They should get down on their knees and give thanks that they weren't hit much harder. If anything should have been cancelled, it was the bright idea to kidnap Indigenous kids and make their lives a living hell -- not to mention the further bright idea to keep it all hush-hush instead of spending some time in their own confessionals and publicly censuring the cover-up. I must admit, and I don't mean to sound trite, that I do feel some sadness at the need to cancel out "Aunt Jemima". I loved seeing her on our kitchen table when I was a kid. I never thought of her as anything other than a smiley, kind lady who made breakfast taste dee-licious (and her smile reminded me of my grandma who died too young). To think that her image was compromised so badly over the years, by thoughtlessly revised adverts, that she, herself, is now "getting the axe" is unfair and brutal in so many ways! NYPost If the new representations of her have been an insult to the original Aunt Jemima, the one I knew as a child (I don't eat pancakes and syrup these days, nor do I watch TV, so I have no way of knowing the full extent of what they did to her) then, by all means why didn't people just stop buying the product and force the perps to change their evil ways? Silence is too often construed as consent. Canada's government cancels stuff all the time, but, for some strange reason, there's always a shocking incident they can point to for justification for what they were itching to do all along: NYTimes: Canada Bans Assault Weapons in Wake of Deadly Mass Shooting
Hey, I've been watching my "A Touch of Frost" DVD's while eating dinner, and I've learned to keep my mind fully open regarding fortuitous "coincidences". Does Trudeau really think a gun ban will stop random mass killings? Or does he fear people with guns might eventually come after him personally? Privy Council clerk Michael Wernick certainly expressed concern as he prepared to retire: NtlObserver - Feb 19: Canada's top public servant fears 'someone is going to be shot' in next election campaign But what about the vehicles with which two young men ran down innocent people? Alek Minassian, 28. Nathaniel Veltman, 20. Is there an outstanding plan to ban certain types of vehicles? As Justin's dad might have said, "Just watch me!" Video It haunts me that the RCMP were outed as having counselled a young couple to commit a "terrorist" act: CTVNews: Terror plotters claim they were groomed by Mounties and were relieved bombs were fake: Exclusive W5 interview
And let us not forget the RCMP's hiring of Mubin Shaikh to oversee the so-called "Toronto 18": YYC: Toronto 18 spook gains fame and fortune ..... Doin' the Mubin Shaikh-down There are certain kinds of shocking "cancels" that I'd like to see (besides the "Covid" scare tactics and the over-hype about "climate change", that is). As my contribution to the "meme", I personally have done something quite outrageous: I cancelled my credit card a year ago and, as always, have been living entirely within my means. If everyone did that, there wouldn't be such a disastrous personal debt problem -- and gov't-approved agencies wouldn't have access to everybody's personal information: FinancialPost 2019: Canadians racked up $100 billion in credit card debt for first time ever and they're not done adding to it. How do they know that? Because your card told them. Image: In memory of the real Aunt Jemima
