In response to the UN's vote against Trump's plan to move US embassy to Jerusalem, United States Ambassador Nikki Haley has threatened fallout in the form of withdrawal of US funding of UN efforts to aid the poor of the world.
In other words: "One wrong move and the starving kid gets it."
See Maclean's: Canada abstains from UN vote rejecting U.S. embassy move to Jerusalem
This at that very special time of the year when such platitudes as "Peace on Earth, Goodwill to all" are bandied about by Christian supporters of Israel who suffer from a unique kind of cognitive dissonance. They want Jesus to return (at which time all the Jews who didn't convert will tossed into the fiery pit of Hell) and they'll do anything to make it happen - even pretending to love and respect Jews -- who they believe killed Christ.
Nevermind that Jewish supporters of Israel right-or-wrong are cynically aware of what the fundies are up to but wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
I'm here to tell you right now, there's no way that any Jesus at all is going to return to such a two-faced lot of manipulators. People who use and abuse their fellow humans are creating their own special hell right here on earth. Guilt is a terrible taskmaster.
Meanwhile, Canada's Prime Minister offers no opinion on Trump's decision while spokespersons on Trudeau's behalf suggest that he's fearful of retaliation from Trump in the form of a take-it-or-leave-it NAFTA so-called agreement.
"Bessma Momani, a senior fellow and Middle East expert with the Centre for International Governance and Innovation said the threat of retaliation shouldn’t influence how Canada votes on the Jerusalem resolution. [...] "there’s power in a collective response against Trump and we should take comfort in that.”
But could the actual threat be closer to home? After all, Trudeau has been known to consort with other lobbyists as well -- also at Christmas time.
I'm beginning to wonder if Justin's boxing win in 2012 against then Senator Brazeau was faked, in that he knew he was fighting a coward. (Sadly, Brazeau, not a year later, turned out to be a wife-beater -- the lowliest of all cowards -- and got tossed out of the Senate.)
Trudeau ought to at least be a little bit shocked that the US Ambassador to the UN has threatened to see to it that the poorest people on earth suffer the consequences of the UN vote.
I mean, it's like a psychopath grabbing a kitten and saying "One wrong move and the kitty gets it."
Oh, I forgot. It was former PM Harper, who claimed to love kittens -- and also Israel -- but not Palestinian kittens, certainly not. He couldn't love anything Palestinian and still be a Conservative Christian.
It's a pity that there's a 1000-year old mosque in Jerusalem. That's about 930 years before there was any place at all called Israel. In fact, the so-called City of David wasn't of much interest to Judaism as long as its people were prospering in other countries.
So it's not ancient sentiment or God-given dibs driving the Jerusalem thing; it's pretty much just real estate.
Ah well, Jewish people don't have to appear to be lovers of all humankind at Christmas time.
I wasn't going to ever mention the following, -- mainly because it came from a grieving widow -- but after the latest cold-blooded UN utterances, it seems clear that she spoke, not only for Jewish Israelis but also for the US in its current incarnation:
Menachem Rosensaft, general counsel of the World Jewish Congress said: “I’m sorry, but the white supremacist ideology that holds African-Americans and Hispanics to be inferior to Caucasians is every bit as reprehensible as anti-Semitism. So are other kinds of discrimination and oppression on the basis of religion, race and nationality." [...]
Rosensaft made his remarks during a special session devoted to the memory of Prof. Robert S. Wistrich, a renowned Hebrew University authority on anti-Semitism who died in May 2015. [...]
Wistrich’s widow, Danielle, drew a large round of applause when she delivered the following statement [...] "I think it is good to be well meaning and wonderful to have a big heart, but let’s keep it for ourselves.” (bolding added)
Rosensaft is a clear-thinking mensch.
Mrs. Wistrich knowingly and determinedly exists in an impermeable bubble - much like a fundie Christian supporter of Israel right-or-wrong.
Both Israelis and their Christian cheerleaders are trying hard not to notice that Jerusalem is very definitely a holy place for Muslims.
