Trudeau goes on vacation -- again

... thanks to the "Covid-19" scare!

But first ... it seems the facts need reviewing -- again!

From LiveScience: How does the new coronavirus compare with the flu?
  • Which one is more worrisome?
  • So far, the new coronavirus has led to more than 100,000 illnesses and more than 3,000 deaths worldwide. But that's nothing compared with the flu, also called influenza.
  • In the U.S. alone, the flu has caused an estimated 34 million illnesses, 350,000 hospitalizations and 20,000 deaths this season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Covid-19, although not as rampantly dangerous as the regular kind of flu, is spreading in the same way that flu does; it's acting like the flu in that the majority of people recover and only some of those already compromised by age or illness succumb.

When are the corporate media going to admit that?

Why, instead, is Covid-19 being played up so prodigiously when the regular flu typically wreaks far more havoc (CDC) yet there is no panic over it.

LiveScience: Myth: Getting COVID-19 is a death sentence
  • About 81% of people who are infected with the coronavirus have mild cases of COVID-19, according to a study published Feb. 18 by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • About 13.8% report severe illness, meaning they have shortness of breath, or require supplemental oxygen, and about 4.7% are critical, meaning they face respiratory failure, multi-organ failure or septic shock.
  • The data thus far suggests that only around 2.3% of people infected with COVID-19 die from the virus. People who are older or have underlying health conditions seem to be most at risk of having severe disease or complications. While there's no need to panic, people should take steps to prepare and protect themselves and others from the new coronavirus.

Since I'm 50% Irish and St. Patty's day is coming up, I'm quoting Irish Central as well:

IrishCentralOnline: Coronavirus Covid-19 myths busted by Irish bureau
  • Many of the more sensible commentators have outlined that the risk of contracting Covid-19 is small and, in most cases, the disease it is not life-threatening.

Now this is interesting:
Sophie Trudeau got tested (CBC)
even though she's "feeling well"! The reports are extremely vague as to the extent of her symptoms, if any.

But what if everyone "feeling well" demanded a test? Well, they'd be tough out of luck, wouldn't they.  If you think you might have it, you're supposed to call the public health authority who will advise you on what to do next.

Did you catch that word "authority"?

From Artha:
  • 1. the power or right to give orders or make decisions, issue warrants ... authorization to make arrests ...
  • 2. (usually plural) persons who exercise (administrative) control over others

So watch your step, eh? Know your place or it won't go well with you.

So far, however, the panic has worked out well for our Prime Minister, who can now enjoy a vacation:

CBC: PM Justin Trudeau's in home isolation because Sophie tested positive.

Hey, didn't the PM and fam just have a vacation in January?

Oh no, not another scandal!

PostMillennial: New Costa Rica photos raise questions about Trudeau’s vacation spending
  • If Trudeau did indeed need three separate aircrafts for what would have otherwise been a five hour car journey, then the prime minister may face criticism for his taxpayer-funded opulence

The extra aircraft were for his entourage, silly. Another vacation for RCMP types who don't believe in paying their own way, but have finally, finally acquiesced on the earlier trip to the Bahamas.

Thing is, though, it still comes out of the tax payer's pocket.

Yes, the Trudeaus do love vacations -- according to RebelMedia (2017) they have spent quite a bit of Justin's time in office vacating: Jet-setting PM: One Year Ten Vacations

And then, in 2018:

Globe&Mail: Trudeau government’s Davos trip cost taxpayers nearly $700,000 ...

Yessir ... there's something in it for everybody:

A Maclean's writer (2013) enjoyed imagining Peter MacKay sneaking into the PM’s office while he’s gone, sitting at the big desk and pretending to make important phone calls. “No, you listen to me, Mr. President . . . ”

Admittedly, that was when Harper was on vacation, but, given MacKay's current aspirations, it could very well still apply.

Back to the scary present:

PostMillennial: Shoppers Drug Mart accused of raising prices on toilet paper as coronavirus panic spreads

The rush on toilet paper, similar to Black Friday mania [YouTube], is a sign that Canada's rep as a cool country is being flushed down the tube.

I'm bemused and a bit frightened at how impressionable people can be. Apparently, when they think of flu they think of diarrhea, and when the advice given is to stock up and hole up, well ... you know the rest. They've knee-jerked instead of searching out the facts - that this flu is a respiratory illness, not a lavatory one!

But the ignorance of the people seems to be what the government and its media hope for and rely upon.

Which is why I'm relieved to find that some of the comments to this CBC fright piece, adding fuel to the fire by dragging Russia (via Ukraine - how unbiased is that, eh?) into the Covid-19 blame game, are actually quite astute.  Here are a few of them, exactly as is:

-- Skimming the recent posts here and remembering other posts over recent days, CBC should examine the spread of misinformation in their own social media platform.

-- Don't worryabout Russia, our national broad caster does a pretty good job at brainwashing the masses. Amazing how well the cencorship works when you try to post anything here

...they [the CBC] are on a roll with the censorship today......

--- no doubt, time and ahalf on weekend

My faith is partially restored that there are some Canadians who are nobody's fools.

Hey Yaya:

It's good to read there are some Canadians out there understanding the media is spreading misinformation.

"But the ignorance of the people seems to be what the government and its media hope for and rely upon."

Well said. That's the case in every instance. AGW. War making and now pandemic panic.

This week end we tried to get groceries- the shelves were empty- we couldn't get bottled water (yes, we do buy bottled water for hubby to take to work since he cannot always get access to water where ever he may be working)

Canned goods shelves were cleared out. Toilet Paper gone. We don't consume much in the way of canned goods, so, didn't really care. It was just so surprising to see! (only tuna and salmon for the most part)

I make all our soups, big batch and freeze so no need for canned soup. Some of my specialties are roasted cauliflower, roasted root vegetable, Borscht a couple of different cabbage soups, beef vegetable with barley- stuff like that.

As for Trudeau, It's all about "A Million Vacations" ala Max Webster.

Yeah, Penny, "you can only drive down mainstream so many times"

Wow! Talk about weird; I meant to say "main street" of course, but look what came out. LOL

But it's true; some people are realizing that mainstream thinking is like a prison.

Apparently, there's a burly, masked guard at the door of the testing centre. Very few people are allowed in, and then they test negative anyway.

There hasn't been a flu epidemic where we haven't been told to wash our hands and cover our mouth when we cough or sneeze. So that's the truth right there about this new virus. If we still need to be told that we should wash our hands the minute we arrive home, that's a pretty sad commentary on the mental acuity of our citizens.

Back in the early 60's I recall my little brother coming home as my mother was putting dinner on the table and holding out his hand proudly displaying a huge bumble bee he had found dead. My mother said, all in one word: "putthatdownandwashyourhands".

My grocery store wasn't quite cleared out when I visited yesterday; only certain shelves. Not the t-paper ones - I guess that's gotten through to people -- or else the store prepared for the onslaught after it was media-ized.

Eggs and butter and cheese. Stuff like that. It will be far worse, I'm sure, when the flu actually does hit our town.

I'm not the amazing cook you are, not by a long-shot, but I do make batches of three when I cook and freeze a couple, so I'm not worried I'll starve. Heck, I need to lose a bit of weight anyway.

I just now got a call from my dentist's office. He has to do what he has to do. Only emergency cases for the next couple of weeks, so my appt is canceled. Gee, I was really looking forward to it. (not)

Sorry, that bumblebee incident was in the early 50's.
