The Masks of God

Salvation or Affectation?

(With great respect for Joseph Campbell whose writings entitled "The Masks of God" and "The Power of Myth" are nothing short of brilliant.)

NBC News: Ohio lawmaker refuses to wear mask because he says it dishonors God
  • "We are all created in the image and likeness of God. That image is seen the most by our face. I will not wear a mask," state Rep. Nino Vitale wrote on Facebook.
  • "No one is stopping anybody from wearing a face mask. But quite frankly everyone else's freedom ends at the tip of my nose."

Wow, first a "novel" virus now a novel reason for not wearing a face mask!

"We are all created in the image and likeness of God", eh? All of us?  I don't think so. In fact, I don't think any of us. None of us has a clue what God really looks like, but He's been copiously painted in the image of a man -- not just any man, of course, because there are some really ugly, mean-looking ones strutting around.

He's usually portrayed as a kind of Santa look-alike (coincidence? I think not). But just like Santa, He knows when you're sleeping, and when you're awake, and you'd better be good ... or else the devil will gitcha!

Scary dude, but He keeps us on our toes, and if you're really, really rich he brings you diamonds, but if you're poor you'd better not pout about it or you'll get more of the same.

Anyway ...

Surely State Rep. Vitale wasn't really implying that he lets people get as close to him as the actual tip of his nose?

Yuck! I wouldn't let strangers anywhere near the end of my nose, certainly not a member of the Royals, because there's nobody stranger than they are -- but, unlike Vitale (and so many others on this planet) I'm not a spokesperson for God; I simply don't want to smell their breath -- and I'm a bit claustrophobic anyway -- so their freedom ends in, oh maybe a couple of feet away from my nose if they look reasonably clean and sane and aren't accused of sex crimes, in which case I don't want them anywhere near me, ever, with or without a mask because they're just way too icky.

Yuckies like Joe Biden and Prince Andrew, well, you just don't know where their noses have been, so it's best to talk to them through something like one of those prison visitor plexiglass booths using a telephone.  Or better yet, not at all, not ever.

The NBC was clearly nervous when attempting to cast doubt on Vitale by resorting to malicious gossip about him (a sort of nyah, nyah, so there!) without (again) providing a link to the source:
  • He also posted a conspiracy theory on his campaign Facebook page earlier in April, saying billionaire Bill Gates "wants to lock us down and profit by charging us for mandatory vaccinations." The post also falsely claimed that Gates "chose not to vaccinate his own kids."

When you call it a "conspiracy theory" then, spit-spot, it magically turns into nonsense!  Everybody knows those are magic put-down words. Surely the great NBC could have been less sophomoric.

Besides, it's as obvious as the nose on Vitale's face that everybody and his/her brother, including Gates himself, know that Gates (like other oligarchical figures such as George Soros) invests in ideas that will make him more money, and that he has tied vaccines to population reduction.

As for Gates not vaccinating his own kids:

NBC gives the impression that it's stating absolute fact in suggesting that Gates had his kids vaccinated, despite that a different news outlet asserts that Gates' own doctor says otherwise:
  • The doctor reportedly told his colleagues, “I don’t know if he (Gates) had them vaccinated as adults, but I can tell you he point blank refused to vaccinate them as children.”

Ah, but it had to fall back on that murky word "reportedly", and that's why people like reading the news because it's like a mystery novel.  Will they, won't they?  Do they, don't they? We don't know, but we desperately need you to think we know.

Then NBC continues to muddy the waters by quoting yet another politician who later abandoned his original assertion that masks were mandatory -- while still struggling to uphold the (possible) wisdom of wearing them.

Who knows why the guy backed off. NBC isn't saying. It could have been: 1. that it's not a proven fact that they prevent infection; and/or 2. that there weren't enough of them to go around; 3. It isn't legal to force people to wear them, but right now masks are a money-maker for those who make and hawk them.

I can't believe I'm sticking up for a religious fanatic, and a politician to boot, but ... nobody even needs State Rep. Vitale's permission to not wear a mask, since one can get from bona fide science  assurances that masks have little value in protecting against "C-1984)":

From: Annals of Internal Medicine:
  • In conclusion, both surgical and cotton masks seem to be ineffective in preventing the dissemination of SARS–CoV-2 from the coughs of patients with COVID-19 to the environment and external mask surface.

"Seem to be ineffective". Is there anybody in charge of anything nowadays who can make a statement that doesn't contain at least one protective weasel word?

From TheTentacle:

Here's an example of an interaction between the masked and the unmasked (I couldn't resist bolding the parts that cracked me up):

  • Robert is walking down the sidewalk, no mask on.  Life is good.
  • Richard walks by wearing a stylish facemask marinated in the virus-soaked saliva it’s collected throughout the day.  For Dick, life is also good.
  • Dick chooses to keep himself safe and walks a comfortable distance away from Bob. Three feet, six feet – oh heck, twenty feet to be really sure.
  • Dick looked out for Dick, Bob looked out for Bob.  Dick’s rights were preserved.  Bob’s rights were preserved.

Or were they?
  • Dick: “No, I had to walk around you.”
  • Bob:  “And?”
  • Dick:  “You encroached on my rights.”
  • Bob:  “How?  You chose to walk in the grass because of the small chance I ‘might’ have ‘the’ virus.”
  • Dick: “You should wear a mask, so I don’t have to walk around you.”
  • Bob:  “Huh? You want me to alter ‘my’ behavior so that ‘you’ don’t have to alter yours?  Yeah, that’s not going to work for me.”
  • Also Bob:  “Your cologne offends me, wash it off.”
  • Dick:  “Huh?”
  • Bob:  “Your cologne, it makes me nauseous.  I think it might be giving me a tumor. Wash it off.”
  • Dick:  “I’m not washing it off.  You can stand over there if it bothers you.”
  • Bob:   “Exactly.”

In the image of God, you say?  For all we know, God looks like Popeye! He sure sounds like Popeye!

I'm one tough Gazookus, which hates all Palookas
Wot ain't on the up and square.
If anyone dares to risk my "Fisk", It's "Boff" an' it's "Wham" un'erstan'?
So keep "Good Be-hav-or", That's your one life saver ...

Quote from Global News: "However, on Friday, the City of Calgary announced that the playing of some outdoor sports would be allowed, including singles tennis, singles badminton and singles pickleball — with slight modifications that ensure players don’t touch the same ball or device during the game."

Can you imagine a tennis match where "players don't touch the same ball"? Seriously, do they even think before they spew these edicts? The so-called lifting of restrictions really means there are restrictions on the lifting of restrictions to the point of almost being pointless.

Did either of you see the report at CBC today about the tulip festival?

I wonder if the reporter "stopped" to take the photo- lol
and the comments underneath?? There are some good ones to be sure- people are fed up!

"I wonder if one has to maintain a certain speed walking past the flowers. "

"The great Ottawa Obedience Experiment. "

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/no-photos-canadian-tulip-festival-1.5560445

"The National Capital Commission (NCC) is telling Ottawa tulip admirers not to stop and take photos of flowers this year over fears it could cause crowds to form and put people at risk of spreading COVID-19.

No stopping and no photography signs have sprouted up at the NCC's flower beds, just in time for the start of the Canadian Tulip Festival Friday."

Thanks for the link, Penny.

It's kind of amazing how a whole set of professionally designed and manufactured signs were created in time for this non-festival. With all the restrictions, the sign-making business must have been considered essential, and would be booming, with back orders up to the eyeballs. You'd almost think the whole pandemic scare was prepared in advance.

Those tulips don't look six feet apart to me.

My favourite comment (so far) is, "If I was a flower, my stigmas would feel unappreciated."

I have tulip envy ... seldom see one here because they are a deer delectable (but then almost EVERY flower seems to be, except dandelions).

I cracked up before I even got to the end of your comment, M.R. I'm trying to picture players not touching the same ball.

That would make a great comedy movie if it weren't so, oh I don't know ... sick?

It was a dark and dreary day today UNTIL we went to our local hardware store. A smiling clerk who was going in the door as we were going out with our purchase said, "Thank you and be safe." We were about 6 paces away when I turned back to her and said, in a very loud voice, "We want to be FREE not safe." She smiled even more and said, "Be free. Now THAT'S what I should be saying to people." Thumbs up were then exchanged. We walked home quite happy. There was another reason to be happy, too. Their credit/debit machine was broken so they were only taking cash which is, of course, our primary choice of payment.

I'm with you, M.R.:

FREE-DOM - and down with debit machines!

I commended a clerk in DollarTree today for politely reminding people to stay on the 6-foot line, beginning with "please" and ending with "thank you". She said, "I try to speak to people they way I'd like to be spoken to."

Then I came home and read about what can happen in an American DollarTree if a clerk gets bossy. YUK.

In the States, apparently, masks are required in the stores. Maybe you need to sneak down there and tell them what they REALLY want. FREE-DOM
