The M.A.D-ness of King Justin and Queen Chrystia

Is "Carbon Pollution" Destroying Our Sense of Smell?

Here's the latest on American M.A.D-ness. Canada doesn't seem to know what to think about it:

RCINet: US To Respond Shortly To Russia Over Venezuela, 'Russians Will Pay Price'
  • US Special Representative Elliott Abrams said in an interview on Friday that Russia will "pay a price" for its military presence in Venezuela, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is already looking at possible options

StrategicCulture.org: Trump Threatens Nuclear War If Russia Protects Venezuela
  • Russia has sent troops and weapons to Venezuela to protect Venezuela from a possible US invasion. Trump and Pence are telling Russia they won’t accept this. They demand that their coup-attempt succeed. Russia is no more-likely to accept that in Venezuela than in Syria, where the US invasion-via-proxies continues. So, the US is now committed, in at least those two places, to regime-change, where Russia is less publicly and explicitly, but perhaps even more, committed to halt America’s aggressions.
  • The idea of the United States as a ‘policeman of the world’ has now become an insult to the United Nations and makes clear what John Bolton had meant when he said:
  • “It is a big mistake for us to grant any validity to international law even when it may seem in our short-term interest to do so — because over the long term, the goal of those who think that international law really means anything are those who want to constrain the United States.”
And:
Strategic-Culture.org: Trump Must Fire Bolton – To Save the Peace of the World

Lest you think this is all about the United States, you need to read about the Canadian politician who played an instrumental part in the whole ugly mess. It's been in my side column for quite a while now:

Strategic Culture: How Chrystia Freeland Organized Donald Trump’s Coup in Venezuela

It seems that our own government has been quietly instrumental in setting the stage for the rape of Venezuela for a couple of years now. I don't recall any survey on how many Canadians thought this was a good idea.  Do you?  I don't see any street protests over it either.  Do you?

We can look at the Hill Cam to see if the Ottawa anti-war movement shows up. At 10:30 am, as I begin to write this, it's quietly snowing (thanks to "global warming"?) and there are no humans in sight.

In fact, the only Ottawa anti-war sites I can find online have been defunct since Harper was PM.  Here's an example: no activity since 2013.

There's just no serious criticism now that the government currently in power calls itself "Liberal".  There was also no serious criticism of US policy when Obama was in power.  Former activists heard the word "democracy" like a dog whistle in their ears, and immediately sat on their haunches.

Every horrible thing that happens now is justified in the name of "democracy".

How can there be any difference at all between conservatism and liberalism, when a Liberal Canadian government openly conspires with an American GOP President to conduct a coup in a tiny country like Venezuela?

The following are some of the most arrogant defences of Canada's decision to pave the way for American domination of Venezuela you're likely ever to read:

CBC: Peaceful transition 'absolutely' possible in Venezuela, says Freeland
  • "What history shows, is once a leader of an authoritarian regime discovers that there are no alternatives, that is when you see the regime fracturing and that is when you see democracy restored and I am absolutely confident that is what will happen in Venezuela," Freeland told host Vassy Kapelos when asked what gives her hope a peaceful transition is possible.
  • "I think the [Canadian] government's shown some real backbone in their approach to Venezuela," said  [Canadian Ambassador to Venezuela Ben] Rowswell. "This is the first time, and I was a diplomat for 25 years — the first time that I've seen Canada openly disagree with the United States on a major issue in Latin America."

One can hardly characterize Freeland's statement as openly disagreeing with the United States. She's saying what she's allowed to say. In fact, when Trump backs down from outright military confrontation with Russia (and he will have to unless he is truly M.A.D), she will have already provided the rationale.

Remember, Trump also likes to give the impression that he and Freeland aren't on the best of terms; how else to cover collusion? What else is the Lima Group, under Freeland's direction, if not  collusion in a coup?

Odd that Trump's has always insisted he and Putin were not on good terms, yet the anti-Trump corporate media have never believed him on that score. And Canada is all set to blame Russia if the Liberals lose this year's election, which merely shows what a good job our own biased corporate media have achieved via TV and online news reporting.

It's no wonder that politicians generally pride themselves on being much more clever than the average citizen. Downright duplicitous, in fact.

But has Chrystia gotten in over her head? For someone who hates Russia as much as she says she does, she must have known that the Russians were going to try to make it darned near impossible for the Venezeula coup to succeed. She had to have known that, with her willing assistance, Venezuela would become yet another experiment in what once was called the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Despite the early interference, Cuba has thrived under socialism and, in a vote in February of this year, its people re-affirmed socialism:

TheGuardian: Cuba overwhelmingly approves new constitution affirming ‘irrevocable’ socialism

But, naturally, the Guardian takes pains to let us know that:
  • 86.85% of voters ratified the document, but in an unprecedented display of ballot-box dissent, more than 700,000 people voted against it

Yes, out of a population of 11.5 million people, a small percentage of Cubans reportedly voted against it (not hard to imagine who those Cubans were before the revolution -- the same sort of wealthy exploiters of labour that ordinary Venezuelans suffered under before the Chavez years).

But that what's "democracy" is; rule by majority vote. Governments forced onto populations via coups are the farthest thing from "democracy" you're ever going to see. And our so-called Liberal government helped to expedite that.

Which makes our Foreign Minister either deluded, foolhardy, week-kneed in the face of US hauteur, or worse, a sadist at heart.

One of my very favourite authors, William Blum (may he rest in peace), would be saying that this whole scene is building up to "MAD-ness"!

William Blum: The Anti-Empire Report #59

Scroll down the page to "Dr. Strangelove" and please read that whole section.  Here's a snippet:
  • Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., historian and adviser to President Kennedy, termed it [the Cuban Missile Crisis] “the most dangerous moment in human history.” But I’ve never believed that. Such a fear is based on the belief that either or both of the countries was ready and willing to unleash their nuclear weapons against the other. However, this was never in the cards because of MAD – Mutually Assured Destruction. By 1962, the nuclear arsenals of the United States and the Soviet Union had grown so large and sophisticated that neither superpower could entirely destroy the other’s retaliatory force by launching a missile first, even with a surprise attack. Retaliation was certain, or certain enough. Starting a nuclear war was committing suicide. If the Japanese had had nuclear bombs, Hiroshima and Nagasaki would not have been destroyed.

And that's the really disgusting part of MAD-ness. Only the weak are picked on.

There's a Quora discussion of this kind of opportunism:

Quora: What Animal Preys On The Weak?
  • Virtually every animal species in some way exhibits this behavior. Almost every carnivore in particular, is an opportunist.
  • HOWEVER… No other species that I’m aware of has developed this skill to the degree that some humans have. We even have special words for the worst of these behaviors… pedophile, for example.

Interesting thought ... how many humans who have attained power in business and governments are also sexually aggressive toward less powerful humans in their environment. Psychology Today thinks there is direct correlation.  And of course, in Hindu chakra parlance, sex (sacral) and aggression (root) occupy adjacent locations on the spine.

One hopes, for all our sakes, that the current Trudeau administration is taking into account what the previous Trudeau PM told the Washington Press Club about sharing a border with the US:
  • “Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt.”

Not to mention that the elephant might roll over and squash the mouse. Or maybe it's already happened?  There's a very powerful American oligarch who has "very great hopes for Canada".  Others think differently:

RealityReader: Trudeau's Globalist Circus Is Destroying Canada

See, this is what puts the lie to Freeland's insistence that "democracy" is being brought to Venezuela. She and Trudeau and their good friend George Soros are actually supporting the opposite in Venezuela, while putting a rosy spin on it. That little country already had its democracy. The vote for Maduro was democratic. To install a leader by force is tyranny.  Not to mention that it has the potential to lead to MAD-ness.

Canada's current anti-Russian stance is due solely to Freeland's self-professed personal animosity. She is Ukrainian, she owns property in Kiev, and she stirred up trouble while acting as a reporter during a stay in Russia, to the point where she's reportedly been banned from entering that country. She's also a usurper of the position of Foreign Minister, which post was originally assigned to Stephane Dion.

Let's see what Dion's approach to Russia would have been, so that we can understand why he was booted out of his job.

Canadian Global Affairs Institute: April 2016 - A Way Ahead With Russia
  • Minister Dion's plan to seek the best outcome for Ukraine in our relations with Russia makes good sense. I think there is no good outcome for Ukraine that involves hostility with Russia, no good outcome without reconciliation, an end to this tragic Slavic civil war, nor without Ukrainian freedom to trade with both Europe and Russia, not just one or the other. Bilaterally and multilaterally, by all means, these are the outcomes we should seek for Ukraine.

It appears that the elephant has already rolled over and Canadians are literally dead asleep.

It's patently obvious that some power did not want peace-monger Stephane Dion to achieve any semblance of leadership within the Government of Canada. When he first attempted the leadership of the Liberal Party, Soros (I am convinced of that) sent his good lackey Michael Ignatieff to roll over him. Though Ignatieff succeeded in not being elected PM, he was rewarded with his very own university, with its own political agenda, in Hungary.

RCINet: Hungary summons Canadian ambassador in diplomatic spat over Soros-funded university

Not surprisingly, Trudeau jumped in to cheer for Ignatieff:
  • “Canada is seriously concerned by amendments that stand to endanger academic freedom in Hungary and the operations of the Central European University,” Poupart said in a statement Thursday that was re-tweeted by Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland.

Trudeau, as I've stated ad nauseum, is good with "weasel" words. Just as Freeland calls a coup "restoring democracy", Trudeau called American indoctrination "academic freedom", but Hungary was not fooled.  It smelled the elephant and drove it out of the country.

Canadians have no sense of smell, it seems.  Consider the source of this article, "Guardian: Dark Day for Freedom " regarding Hungary's actions, and then consider that the Guardian no longer retains a reputation for unbiased reporting.

With regard to the silent Left: It's now after 4 PM and there's been no significant activity on Parliament Hill. But there's always hope, isn't there?

Hey Yaya:
about that snow...
Plenty of it for march 31 and probably more to come :(

When we woke up this morning I said to hubby
It looks like Christmas- and it really did.
All the branches (no leaves to be seen...) covered with a good coating of snow. Like those christmas cards with the silver sparkles- pretty, but, not really spring weather
Lake Erie still has a whole lot of ice.

The squirrel is in a local park- all the animals and birds are used to people.. (even the fox aren't quick to run away- they will, but, they don't hurry or scurry)

But the geese and ducks are nesting there now and I tell you the geese (Canada) can get down right nasty to us poor people- One chased me.. and I ran.
They hiss and show their teeth- all because they had a nest that I was at least 10 metres away from.
They bite and draw blood- (I've never been bit but recall seeing some young boys on bikes- one of them got big and was bleeding)

As for Trudeau and Freeland and the "liberals"

"How can there be any difference at all between conservatism and liberalism, when a Liberal Canadian government openly conspires with an American GOP President to conduct a coup in a tiny country like Venezuela?"

That's just it- there is no difference. And I'm not sure there ever really was? Maybe there was? Maybe I was less aware? As for the here and now- I just can't see a difference other then in the rhetoric. And even that is not all that different.

Hi Penny. You get to see foxes? That's so cool. I once saw a young wolf once outside my apt. bldg in Ottawa. He was lost for sure. When I approached, he took off, all gangley in the legs, down the middle of the road, and someone else saw him eventually at the airport.

When my sister was about 8 she was bitten by a squirrel. She picked up a bit of a nut, or something and offered it but I guess h/she had had an eye on it and thought she was stealing it.

The river is all thawed, and we got some wet snow today that has melted. It's not as bad as you got, but it's still not very Springy.

I don't see the difference between the Libs and Cons, either Penny. Not in Canada, nor in the US. We're being had, for sure.

Did you see the transcript of the telephone discussion between Wernick and JWR?
https://globalnews.ca/news/5112044/jody-wilson-raybould-michael-wernick-secret-call-transcript/

It's no wonder he quit. He knew that even if she just did a written report, she would be credible and he would be exposed as the toady he's probably always been.

Hey Yaya:

I see foxes and have seen their babies too- The babies are adorable- ( always keeping a healthy distance, of course)

I heard the recording.. between JWR and Wernick.

It left me wondering if this really was criminality or business as usual in Canada?
(of course government should not run this way)
But is this pressure for the benefit of one business or one party really an anomaly or is it business as usual?

Sadly I think this is business as usual considering the revolving door between business and government..

Our gov certainly colludes with big phama- the banks- etc.,ya know what I mean?

I;m a super cynic :)

I'm killing myself laughing here. I just noticed that I did the s/he thing backwards. So much for political correctness, eh?

It's business as usual AND criminal, as far as I'm concerned. Creating new legislation solely for the benefit of a company full of criminals is criminal!

Not sure if it's cynicism or just facing facts. Parents don't teach kids not to trust strangers for no reason. And politics gets stranger every day ;-]
