Russia Did It!
Or maybe not...
[British PM May's] reasoning can be deconstructed thusly:

A sad reminder of the lies that Tony Blair repeated to drag Britain into the disastrous war on Iraq.
Further, since this is election day in Russia, here is a well-researched article for anyone wanting to know more about modern day Russia:
How the Russian Presidential Election Race Looks in its Final Days
"It didn't take them long" to blame Putin.
Responding to questions on speculation that Russia was behind the incident, [President Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov] said: "It didn't take them long." DW.com
There are lethal mouths shooting off all over the place in the British Parliament, some of them quite contradictory. From the Business Insider:
Trump has been variously lambasted for his reported silence, but when he did speak it was with a subtlety we've not been conditioned to expect from him:
Here's the kind of crafty little game played by countries that spy on one another:
So far, this is about sleazy wretches on both sides of the spy business, working -- not for national security but for money -- on both sides of the fence, knowing the inherent risks full well.
It is assumed that the spies on our side are honourable and would never rub out a double agent and blame it on Russia. Yet ... "False Flag" has not become a household term for no reason.
If there's anything that Theresa May is really good at, it's eloquent righteous indignation. What she seems short on, however, is a questioning mind. Is she seriously not wondering why so many scary things have happened on her turf since she displayed a determination to go ahead with Brexit?
The Washington Post is so eager to get in on the "blame Russia" game, it has, either deliberately or inadvertently, told a much different story than appears on its surface:
The nerve agent attack on British soil has exposed London’s isolation
Vladimir Putin, a man whom most Britons know as a semi-fictional bad guy who sometimes appears on the evening news, has suddenly insinuated himself into ordinary life.
One could easily derive from the above that the WaPo is concerned that Putin is not sufficiently viewed by John Q and Josephine Public and their kids, and their dog, as a grave and imminent danger.
It then reveals an expectation of lack of sympathy for spooks getting their comeuppance by mentioning quickly the unnamed Bobby who we are told is seriously ill, along with other unnamed Brits under observation for poisoning, in order to bring the threat closer to the living room wherein resides the ubiquitous TV set.
John Q is literally told to read more into this than just "Russians killing Russians": it's Russians killing innocent Brits! Nevermind that we aren't yet told who the victims are and that so far nobody at all has died.
So that's Clues #1 and 2 that blatant propaganda may well be the WaPo objective.
Putin may be a lot of things; but stupid is not one of them.
The WaPo acccuses Trump of deliberate silence, suggesting as usual that he is a Russian tool. But as you can see from the Business Insider item above, Trump did indeed speak a surprisingly succinct mouthful.
Always look to the very last lines in any news item if you want confirmation of the basic objective of the report.
If the EU and its supporters inside Britain seriously wanted to put a stop to Brexit, ways could be found to change minds and hearts.
