NEW GROCERY STORE ETIQUETTE

The New Grocery Store Etiquette

Or: Who was that masked man?

Apologies to The Lone Ranger

Yesterday, in the supermarket, after dutifully spritzing and trusting my beloved personal shopping cart to the man in control of admission to the inner sanctum, I found I could not access one of the aisles because the lineup (due to distancing) was preventing me.

Standing in my way (no fault of his; his feet were planted firmly in the middle of the designated distancing circle) was a young man wearing a mask. I could see only his left eye as it glanced warily at me sideways. I asked politely (yes, I can be polite!) if he would allow me to access the aisle and -- I'm not exaggerating -- he literally goosestepped sideways!  When I had passed him, he goosestepped back onto the circle.  Either he's always been a little bit crazy or he's been made mad with fear and suspicion of others.

Or else, he's a part-time bank robber and worried I might be an undercover FBI agent?

I worried I might have done something wrong by asking him to move, so when I encountered a floor clerk I asked if it was okay for people to traverse the aisle from both ends, and she said, "Oh, sure" -- even though the aisles are too narrow for proper distancing when one person passes another.

That didn't bother me, but may quite possibly have frightened the masked man -- or not, if he was just a robber with a guilty conscience. He didn't pull a gun on the cashier, so that's a positive sign.

This whole public fright thing has reminded some folks of 9/11, but I can go back a bit farther than that, when, possibly, people were being experimented on to see just how panicked they could be induced to feel.  This was during the approach to New Year's eve, 1999 -- the Y2K scare.

From Britannica:
  • An estimated $300 billion was spent (almost half in the United States) to upgrade computers and application programs to be Y2K-compliant. As the first day of January 2000 dawned and it became apparent that computerized systems were intact, reports of relief filled the news media. These were followed by accusations that the likely incidence of failure had been greatly exaggerated from the beginning.
  • Those who had worked in Y2K-compliance efforts insisted that the threat had been real. They maintained that the continued viability of computerized systems was proof that the collective effort had succeeded. In following years, some analysts pointed out that programming upgrades that had been part of the Y2K-compliance campaign had improved computer systems and that the benefits of these improvements would continue to be seen for some time to come.

I was personally responsible for the welfare of half a dozen computers in an Ottawa consulting firm. Though highly skeptical, I dutifully informed the company President that there was remedial software available for a price, and asked if he wanted me to take that route. He paused for a moment, no doubt assessing my tone of voice, and then firmly said "No".

On New Year's eve I shut down all the computers and went home. When the holiday was over, I returned to the office, booted up the work stations, and everything was normal.

Somebody got filthy rich off that scam, bilking companies out of millions, and to this day, I am skeptical of all panic news, including 9/11, A-234 AKA Novichok and the current Covid-19 fright which some people are, not surprisingly, calling C-9/11, and I have to admit that the intimidating effect on the population is pretty much the same.

Omigawd, Tom Hanks and his wife have come down  with it! (Globe & Mail).

How convincing is that, eh?  The guy's an actor.  So is Justin Trudeau (he was so good at it that he had a job teaching it!). And for that matter, so is Boris Johnson and most politicians you're ever going to meet!

As far as I'm concerned, since the stats are much lower than in the regular flu season, and pretty much only the already-compromised are reportedly dying from it, then it's just another version of the annual flu.

Check out what Dr. Wodarg said about how the flu has to upgrade itself every year because people build immunity to the previous version.

Thankfully, the Globe article about the Hanks confirmed that:
  • For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.
  • The vast majority of people recover from the new virus. According to the World Health Organization, people with mild illness recover in about two weeks, while those with more severe illness may take three to six weeks to recover.

It's abysmally clear that, as in the Y2K scare, corporations stand to benefit hugely from this manufactured crisis at the expense of the ordinary population -- and aspersions cast on China (as Novichok was erroneously blamed on Russia) suggest it may well be simply yet another version of economic warfare.

I'm not alone in my suspicions. Take your pick of the multitude of op-eds confirming them.

Looks like it began with Trump in March of 2018. (NewYorkPost)
  • Trump and other US officials have long charged China with intellectual property theft — forcing companies to share technology and innovations in order to do business in the country — and the president’s move seeks to combat that.

You can be sure that Trump, not being any kind of intellectual whatsoever, didn't dream this up all by himself.  But apparently severe financial penalties against China were not enough for the US.

One has to wonder if some American military lab didn't come up with a new version of the old virus.  Why? Well, because something equally vile has been tried before.  Remember this? ---

Fort Detrick Scientist “Commits Suicide” as Anthrax investigation closes in
  • Bruce Ivins, a microbiologist at the US Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, Maryland, reportedly committed suicide ... as the FBI prepared to charge him in the anthrax attacks weeks after the 9/11 attack in 2001.

Now check this out: DuckDuckGo Search results re:
US military lab closed down in August 2019

Nothing to see here folks? If the truth ever has to be admitted to, scapegoats will be found.

Hi Yaya
did you get to listen to the video at all?
There is a part 2, which I've yet to take in, but, I did like the first part- Hubby listened as well and he thought it good too.

"When I had passed him, he goosestepped back onto the circle. Either he's always been a little bit crazy or he's been made mad with fear and suspicion of others."

I'd say he's been made MAD with fear and suspicion
that is so obvious when you set foot in the grocery store
people are loosin' it!

Yes, I did watch it, Penny and I've downloaded the more recent one as well:

Why We Don't Have Reliable Data Surrounding COVID-19
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUvWaxuurzQ

He was very good, knowledgeable, and sounded extremely reasonable, and I think he's right that the gov'ts are acting on weak, incorrect info, but it seems he doesn't want to offend anybody in power. Just sort of suggesting, don't worry, we'll get it right. And I couldn't get a bead on whether he supports self isolation for the elderly. It seemed at first he didn't, then in another context he seemed to be suggesting it might be a necessary thing to do, once the figures are more accurate.

After that I watched, am still watching, David Icke and he's taken it to a shocking scenario to the point where he does sound a bit daft. He could well be right on everything he says, but he kind of looks crazy when he talks.

London Real "How Covid-19 will destroy our economy"

He goes farther into the future, re 5G and artificial food, etc. and begins to sound paranoid because he's so dramatic.

Looks like YouTube has pulled it down. That was fast. You can read about that on Icke's site, if you're interested.

hubby wants me to tell you about our grocery shop yesterday

including the directional arrows around the store
with the foot placement for people to stand

Hubby was looking for me, oblivious to the directional dictates marked out by overzealous stores, doing their "due diligence" during the "pandemic"; and wasn't going to follow the one way routes in his search.

By time he got to where I was, I asked if he noticed the new signs that they only want one shopper at a time in the store- which means we can't shop together

Now at this time of insanity, I feel better not being alone, so hubby is going to tell them he is my personal support dog aka my husband!

roflmao!

Let's see what the response will be should we be confronted?

It's not a bad idea, necessarily. All the same, you should tell Fido to watch his back; there's a backlash against Emotional Support dogs now. LOL

Apparently you even have to have a prescription for it.
And they'll probably make you carry a pooper-scooper. Is it really worth the hassle?

think of us as being there with you in in spirit-
cause we are.
You, us and all the other sane persons wandering among those made irrational by allowing themselves to be so filled with fear.

"You, us and all the other sane persons wandering among those made irrational..."

Like in a Zombie movie. YouTube has tons of those, many of them uploaded within the past year. A commenter said she was watching them for something to do while waiting for the C-19 restrictions to lift. Talk about no inner resources!
