What's the Matter With Kids Today?
Are they all aspiring Hollywood ingenues? No, the occasional one is an aspiring politician. And, as such, it stands to reason there would be flak from opposing figures. But some people think kids should be allowed to be ... whatever it is they're trying to be these days.
Globe&Mail: Bernier’s vitriol toward Greta Thunberg showcases a wider trend of contempt by political figures
Geez, I don't have a lot of admiration for Bernier in general, but the "unwritten rule" here is, apparently, that youth ought to be praised and encouraged to be publicly political without having to suffer the blowback that other politicians are treated to every day.
It doesn't seem that Bernier is outright saying Greta should not be allowed to speak; he is adamant that what she is promoting is a gargantuan lie, and I'm strongly inclined to agree, though I wouldn't vote for Bernier's party. See his Twitter comments.
Personally, I think Greta should certainly be allowed to speak her mind, but the problem is this: is she speaking her own mind or is she programmed by adults, particularly adults who have an interest in the lucrative aspects of countering "climate change"?
You guessed it, or ought to have. There's plenty of info to be found on "the manufacturing of Greta Thunberg": See: Greta, Inc.
And speaking of youth; schools are reportedly attempting to have some say in how students dress, particularly the female students who often seem to come across as Lolitas. In contrast, I thought you might like to see how my high school friends dressed (see bottom of page). I took the photo with my Brownie camera.
Our modest clothing style didn't prevent a couple of "shotgun" weddings in our senior classes, but those girls were "in love" with steady boyfriends whom they probably would have married later on, anyway. Whatever's happening nowadays seems deliberately provocative which strongly suggests that sex and love are now quite disparate concepts. There's clearly an invitation to look, though not to be seen to be looking, and certainly not touching.
I'm recalling a movie or a TV comedy show from some time ago in which a buxom, adult woman, showing a considerable amount of cleavage, sat next to a man in a waiting room, and angrily rated him out when his eyes strayed to what was on display. Despite that I'm a woman, I have trouble understanding the motivation behind this sort of behaviour in real life.
There seems to be a form of "power dressing" that doesn't improve anything for anyone.
"Power" dressing in business is an art nowadays, and can take many forms depending on the circumstances, although a how-to on dressing for business includes a warning for females not to "show too much skin". Good advice, I think, for both school and business -- and waiting rooms.
The advice to "wear clothes that fit", however, is something our Foreign Minister has carried to a bit of an extreme.
