68% of Canadians want Quebec’s face-coverings ban in their province -
Well, the byline's been given to an Hijab-wearing Muslim, so it must be true, eh?
But Pollsters have ways of wording questions in such a way as to achieve the desired response, and I would like to see them for myself. If you can find the questions on the Ipsos website, please let me know.
I don't mind saying I'm a bit leery of IPSOS' "Canada Next" project, especially this statement:
"Ipsos CanadaNext looks at the wave of change about to happen across Canada. Driven by demographic shifts and technology advancement our economy, our communities, our governments, our businesses, and our lives are about to change drastically."
It brings to mind the phrase "Everything has changed" that was repeated ad nauseum on every TV news site in the wake of 9/11. Who told them to say that? Whoever it was knew that repeated authoritative statements tend to become absolute truth in people's minds, so that manufactured "change" is accepted as a natural result.
(Hey, I'm suddenly reminded of what a fanatical Pentecostal youth minister told me when, as a youth myself, I was asked to speak to the church's young people. "Repetition is good," he said, several times, to me.)
Dollars to donuts, the Canadians who are most against Muslim religious attire, don't know any Muslims personally, tend by nature to be suspicious of anything/anyone unlike themselves, and are so hooked on soaps and hockey and American stuff, they never bothered to watch that absolutely wonderful Canadian TV series, "Little Mosque on the Prairie". The Episode called "Ban the Burqa" is, of course, quite relevant.
