Hong Kong - Another "Colour Revolution"?
Grist for US and Chrystia Freeland's Pot vs Kettle Mill?
Globe&Mail: ‘A warning’: China’s central television takes direct aim at Canadian foreign minister
In my opinion, Christya Freeland is a scary hawk, always with a beady eye on America's traditional erstwhile "enemies". Even more insidious, she was the chief organizer of the Venezuela coup; need one say more? Here's an article that does say more:
Off-Guardian: Chrystia Freeland Is More Dangerous Than Tony Blair
Possibly because they both have an unhealthy admiration for the rich and influential, much like movie star fans on Oscar night.
I've written extensively about her in the past, but the main theme running through all of her ill-considered bellicosity is the fact that she worships, and is guided by, George Soros and his support of protests in countries that the US sees as opposition to its own hegemony or useful to it.
What's happening in Hong Kong is a re-run of what's been going on since the so-called Arab Spring and the so-called "colour revolutions". Note the black and white theme in the photo above of the Hong Kong protesters. These rise-ups always extensively involve youth and therefore tend to reach their peak - and become more violent - when the kids are on summer break.
Then the US and Canadian media tsk-tsk all over the place about the police violence as if nothing of that sort has ever occurred on US or Canadian soil. But all we Canucks have to do is go back to 2010 and the G20 protests that took place in Toronto:
TorontoGuardian: G20 Toronto Seven Years Later the Trauma Remains: Part 1 of 3
Wikipedia has a special in-depth report on the current situation re the Hong Kong protests:
The "some" who fear are most likely those who benefit most from China's inability to control certain questionable business dealings. After all, those Canadians Freeland worries about are not in Hong Kong for a vacation; they are there because of ongoing financial interests. "Follow the money" is always good advice in any serious political conflict.
Workers World: Follow the money behind Hong Kong protests
Scout Asia: Hong Kong's democracy: follow the money
SCMP: Dubai to Hong Kong, follow the money (laundering)
Make what you will of the above three analyses; I personally don't see this conflict as any different from the G20 crackdown in Toronto, nor of Pierre Trudeau's heavy-handed military response to the FLQ crisis.
For whatever it might be worth, below is a video from CGTN (China Global Television Network):
