Not exactly a chip off the old block ...
Is Justin his own worst enemy?
Since it seems everybody is giving Justin Trudeau tips on how to be an effective Prime Minister of Canada, I thought I might chip in with some grandmotherly advice as well.
But first, let's review some of the wisdom so far offered: [YouTube]
Justin Trudeau Gets IGNORED By Trump at The G20 Summit (What He SHOULD Have Done)
(Sometimes you have to do a bit more than just being the only male in the crowd wearing a light blue jacket.)
HillTimes: Mr. Trudeau (Papineau, Que.) and his team are prone to self-inflicted wounds and not responding fast enough to nip an issue in the bud before it gets worse, say political strategists.
Good advice, I'm sure. But might he have gotten better treatment had he paid more attention to examples set famously by his father? I could be wrong, but it's my impression, for instance, that Pierre was never accused of "yelling" at a woman. Or a man, for that matter, as Justin has most recently been accused of doing.
"Just Watch Me" [YouTube], Pierre said as he calmly took all the time necessary to argue with reporters about whether or not his response to the FLQ crisis was tantamount to police state tactics.
I happen to think that was not Pierre's finest hour -- and that he really did not have a clue what to do, so took the advice he was offered -- and the fact that he spent so much time justifying it on video suggests he knew that. But the fact remains, he kept his public cool and steadfastly brazened it out.
But, failing a brilliant argument, there's always the "pirouette":
You can do it, Justin. Just watch the video [YouTube]
Go home and watch those old videos of your dad, and instead of being over-ingratiating one minute, and sounding off the next, frightening weaker-kneed, newbie MP's, there's always the last resort. You could just simply, silently, mouth a couple of words - any words will do because it's all in the mind of the beholder anyway - and then just get merrily on with business.
If called upon to explain, you can look insulted and deny, deny, deny [YouTube].
Buck up now, Justin. We can't have those shifty Conservatives in charge by default (a few bad apples have been exposed in their ranks, with -- who-knows? -- maybe more to come), and Jagmeet is already in trouble, not to mention Elizabeth's accused by her own staff of being a behind-closed-doors harridan.
Justin, you're the best of a not-so-great lot. For pity's sake, take pride in that!
