They bring out the devil in me...
They don't smoke, drink (in public), cuss (out loud), and are uptight sexually, so they have a lot of pent-up angst going on and need projects through which they can take out their resentment about how God lets other people get away with all that stuff.
When (if -- they're never absolutely convinced) they get to heaven, they're going to glue themselves to that peep hole into Hell, not just because it will be delicious entertainment, but also to put more oomph into the required all-day praising of God/Jesus/Holy Spirit.
The election of Andrew Scheer, an avowed anti-abortion Conservative Party leader, has cheered and emboldened anti-abortion groups who say his victory shows the growing strength of the social conservative wing of the party.
"They are weak, but he is strong". (Kididdles.com)
In fact, that's pretty much how he attained the leadership of the Cons. Forget that government is about carrying on the business of the country; his fans don't much care what else happens, they just want to control other people's sexual mores and reproductive rights. And you gotta wonder why it's so gosh-darned important to them.
Is it a case of: "I had to get married, raise my kids; who are you to get off scot-free?"
Why can't they let God do His job without supervision? He's already created a Hell for evil-doers. Is it too long to wait to watch them suffer?
And then there's those TRANSgressors. God must be grossed out all over the place, but He hardly does anything about it until they die. Oh, sure, they get insults and punched out sometimes -- stuff like that -- but that's nothing to what they'll get in the afterlife. It's just hard to wait, is all.
And now -- wait for this too -- Charles McVety of Harper days fame is back in the crime-light. He's a bit preoccupied at the moment, though, since he's been knocked off his TV broadcasting channel for unbecoming Christian behaviour:
But worried he's not; he can always get a late night spot on Porn TV. I found the "hot boys" quip rather titillating; didn't you?
Here is the statement of the broadcasting corporation.
And here's an old article by The Galloping Beaver questioning McVety's "doctorate". The link to YayaCanada no longer works (I'm unwilling to pay the $3900. they're asking for my old dot-com, which apparently still retains some of its earlier cache), but the question is still valid.
And here's another by a Christian who demonstrates how "Charles McVety Embarrasses Christians Everywhere".
Moving on to more madness:
Requirement to say Easter Bunny is real violated couple's charter rights: court
Hard to know what the Judge was thinking (or his/her religious views), but I don't think it was necessary for the Baars to say anything at all when the kids talked about the Easter Bunny -- though it's rare to find a fundamentalist Christian who can resist the urge to preach.
When my kids were small I had long discarded religion as a trick played by domineering people on weaker ones, yet I never had to concur at all that there was a Santa or an Easter bunny. The kids learned about it at school, ad nauseum, because the public system is designed to normalize everyone into sameness.
So, they expected a lighted tree and gifts at Christmas, and I also hid Easter eggs, without ever agreeing that there was a Santa or an egg-laying Bunny -- but my kids were no dummies. When they heard no sleigh bells on the roof, and heard the cats re-hiding the eggs as soon as the lights went out, they knew how to put two and two together.
I have a wonderful memory of my son when he was going on 7. I didn't hear him sneak down the stairs while I was putting the finishing touches on arranging the gifts under the tree, but I did hear the excitement in his voice when he whispered "Skates!" and then hurriedly tip-toed back up the stairs. He didn't care who put them under the tree as long as he got what he wanted for Christmas.
I find it bemusing that the foster couple saw only the Bunny as a myth. It doesn't appear they know about Jeremiah 10: 2-4. Most people don't, but it's pretty explicit:
Yet at Christmas time, Christians sing about the pagan "star" that led the Wise Men to the manger, and they inexplicably decorate trees. Christmas is as much a pagan solstice festival as is Easter (named after the Goddess Eostre [or Oestre] whose symbol was a rabbit or hare, and after whom the female sex hormone oestrogen/estrogen was named) and to which the death and resurrection of Jesus was later added -- perhaps because Christians resisted being weaned off the exhilaration of the Spring and Winter festivals, despite the everlasting joy that simply being "born again" is said to bring.
Christians: RELAX. Sooner or later the kids will stop believing in fairy tales all by themselves. And you already know this or you wouldn't be constantly sending them to Sunday School.
Now I'm going to tell you a true story about loving Christians who don't approve of sex before marriage, and certainly not of abortion...
When I was a Pentecostal Christian kid there was a very beautiful young woman who sang with us in the choir -- although her family didn't always attend church, which meant she was a semi-outsider socially. She had almost white blonde hair and soft blue eyes and a voice like an angel's, so she was often invited to sing solos. She was sweet, friendly, loved Jesus, and would never say a bad word about anyone.
Somehow a preacher's son from another town met up with her and couldn't resist coming on to her to the point where she became pregnant. Then the strangest thing happened. The boy denied it and he was believed, because, after all, he was a pastor's son.
(I could mention his name and the scrapes he's gotten himself into throughout his life as a pastor who just keeps coming back no matter what the scandal, but she never publicly condemned him so I won't either.)
The girl, on the other hand, could very well have been a temptress with all that beauty going for her, but she was not outright banished, she was more or less gradually frozen out as the tummy bulge became noticeable. She no longer was asked to sing; people whispered behind their hands about her and eventually she stopped coming to church.
I was too young and obedient at the time to risk asking questions that would have forced the tight-lipped grownups to put into words what they had done and why they had done it.
She didn't seek an abortion, but that counted for nothing among those good Christian people. It was bad enough that she was an embarrassment to the godly folk, and they were relieved to see the back of her.
It's hard to end this on a comic note...
Ah! I just thought of my cousin Dan. He has a wicked sense of humour, and I love him. He's the kind who will allow a new baby Christian to talk his ear off about the life-changing joy of being "saved". And then Dan says: "Okay. Now tell me what you really think."
That cracks me up every time I think of it, and if it doesn't make you at least smile, then you're either one of them or you're a woman, since it's said that when God took the rib from Adam to make Eve he forgot to use the funny bone. (I got mine cheap at a yard sale.)

Age doesn't always bring wisdom, but I figure that, by the time you are (at least) 60, you ought to have realized that you can live any way you want to as long as you can handle the fallout.
