The New York Times commits election influence
Remember me poo-pooing the government's desire to control social media for fear of them influencing the 2019 federal election? Fake Liberals Running Canada
Did you see any mention of the corporate media in their concerns? Of course not. And that's why the New York Times gets away with this blatant advertisement:
NYTimes: Thank God for Canada!
A "moral leader of the free world", eh? Is "free world" still being used to describe North America? Hackneyed or what? Hypocritical at best.
The NYTimes pretends to be talking about Canada, but it's really praising to the skies Mr. Trudeau and especially Ms. Freeland, and maybe that's because ...
Freeland's husband works for the NYTimes!
There's a foreign ministry spokeswoman elsewhere who has a question for Canada as it is represented by Freeland:
HuffingtonPost: "What threat has China posed to Canada?"
What Freeland reportedly said was:
In other words, that's China for you. That's how they behave. They threaten perfectly innocent countries.
As if the arbitrary detention -- solely at US behest -- of a Chinese tech executive (who from all accounts does not appear to have been a drug smuggler) does not constitute a threat to, at the very least, China, but also to Canadian sovereignty.
I'd be willing to agree that the 5G technology might well be a way to deprive Internet users of their last illusion of privacy and may even be harmful to one's health, but if this is what it's about, then arrest the Bell executives, and Rogers, and Videotron. Please. They are ruthless.
I consider this whole issue to be proof positive that Freeland has not been serving Canada in her role as Foreign Minister, but is working under direction from outside entities.
I really like the term "optics". It's such an honest description of mind manipulation. Freeland doesn't really care what happens to a couple of drug smugglers in China; she cares about appearing to care.
Need I repeat that this is an election year?
She may also be in a hurry to figure a way out because the US could demand extradition at any moment and some Liberal voters might be put off by that. What to do; what to do?
On the surface, it appears that Meng had stolen tech secrets. Yeah, like Huawei needs to steal tech ideas. Huawei wasn't popular in Canada for no reason and was solidly deemed no "security or privacy threat" when it served the purposes of the big Canadian movers and groovers -- Bell, Rogers, Telus, Videotron -- who profited from Huawei's phenomenal expertise.
No, a more dire reason than "security" is needed, such as violating the sanctions against Iran. The US just needs a little more time to come up with a truly optical scenario.
What the besmirching of Huawei will ultimately mean to nearly a thousand Canadian tech employees is no doubt also weighing on Freeland's mind -- again, not because of actual concern for Canadian livelihoods, but because it's - da da da DA- bad optics in an election year.
When it comes to money, it's probably safe to say that all sorts of high rollers are finding ways around the Iran sanctions. And that's why the NYTimes wouldn't mind having Canada's fake Liberals win this year's election. Sure, they could work with the cold-blooded, military-minded Conservatives, but then everybody would know what they're really up to, right? Better to at least pretend to care about truth and generosity and freedom.
CTV: Meng's extradition to U.S. far from slam dunk, say lawyers, experts
It seem trite to have to say it, but the US needs to ditch its street gang mentality and try to earn a "works well with others" comment on its report card. And especially stop trying to influence our federal election!
