CDN armed forces in Iraq

Is "training" a euphemism of some sort?

According to CTV news back in 2016 there were "approximately 830" Canadian military personnel stationed in Iraq for "training" purposes in the war against ISIS.

Now, as if it were some kind of new idea, Canada is sending 250 troops to Iraq for training purposes:

GlobeandMail:
  • ... to help protect and guide the training of Iraqi government troops on measures to prevent a re-emergence of Islamic State militants and other threats.
  • “We are proud to take a leadership role in Iraq, and work with our allies and the government of Iraq, to help this region of the Middle East transition to long-lasting peace and stability,” Mr. Trudeau said in a prepared statement on Wednesday.

Let's talk about "transition": Iraq "transitioned" out of stability because of Western actions in 2003. Information Clearing House keeps a running tab on the freakish costs still being incurred in dollars and the obscene number of Iraqi lives lost.

After all this time, it seems doubtful that peace is the key aim here, especially when goaded by Trump's complaints about the US doing all the hard work.
  • Mr. Trump has been vociferously criticizing allies, including Canada, Germany and others, for failing to meet a NATO guideline to devote 2 per cent of their annual economic output to military spending.

You might understand the following better than I: (underlining mine)
  • The Trudeau commitment will result in an increase in Canadian troops in Iraq, but General Jon Vance, the Chief of Canada’s Defence Staff, said in an interview that the total deployment will remain below a cap set for this country’s contribution to Iraq in 2016. At the time, the federal government said the cap was 830 Forces members.

I suppose it means some 250 troops are being returned home (they must be tired after all that failed training), so while it sounds good that 250 troops are being sent, it isn't really an increase, is it?  Is Trump really so easily placated?

Of course, when you think of the oil and how the US loves oil, one might surmise that finding reasons to stay in Iraq would be a given, especially since NATO (the great peace bringer) seems to approve. And Canada being part of NATO means we are also a part of the problem for Iraqis.

This is sad, especially since over a year ago ... Reuters:
  • Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared final victory over Islamic State on Saturday after Iraqi forces drove its last remnants from the country, three years after the militant group captured about a third of Iraq’s territory.

It's good optics to be seen to have won a war, while NATO is perpetually "cleaning up" in order to stay in the game and retain virtual control of the territory.

TRTWorld: In Salah al Din, the US is seen as Daesh's friend
  • As a small yet significant presence of Daesh continues to haunt Iraq's Salah al Din province, residents accuse the US of backing the terror group.

We are never really sure just who ISIS (Daesh) is although, in Syria, it certainly appears they have operated as virtual agents of the US who want to keep things going over there on behalf of the dream of "Greater Israel".

Global Research: “Greater Israel”: The Zionist Plan for the Middle East

Speaking of Israel: The US sends Israel billions of dollars each year in "defense aid", which Israel uses (in large part) to buy weaponry from the US. Nice work if you can get it.

BreakingIsraeliNews: US Congress Votes into Law $38 billion Defense Aid to Israel
  • It encourages expanding U.S. weapons stockpiles in Israel and advancing U.S.-Israel cooperation in anti-drone technologies and space.”

Meanwhile, the US national debt is beyond the ordinary American's ability to comprehend:

Investors.com: The U.S. National Debt Spiral Has Begun: How This Will End
  • A new era of massive budget deficits is upon us, but does anyone even care about the U.S. national debt? Having just closed the books on the first $1 trillion budget deficit, Washington is poised to spend more.

You can Google "US National Debt" and see that it's a big concern to market watchers.

All money worries aside, the enemies business is a lucrative one for certain beneficiaries. The "military/industrial complex" depends upon it. Filthy rich Americans owe their wealth to death and destruction elsewhere.

The Pentagon can't - won't - account for missing trillions of dollars. You can Google "Pentagon missing trillions" and judge for yourself if this true or not. Meanwhile:

TheNation: ... the DoD’s financial records were riddled with so many bookkeeping deficiencies, irregularities, and errors that a reliable audit was simply impossible.

Medals will no doubt be handed out for that.  Budding accountants might wish to study the fine art of "nippering"; it could mean a job at the Pentagon.

But rest assured, Canada's military deployments are all about "peacekeeping and security". We know this because our government wouldn't lie:
  • Canada has contributed to international efforts to end conflicts in the Middle East going back to the Suez Crisis in 1954 and the earliest UN peacekeeping missions.
  • In Iraq, West Bank and Gaza, the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt and the Arabian Sea, Canadian forces are working to combat terrorism and improve security.
  • Canada's armed forces have 6 active operations in the Middle East.

How informative is that, eh? Basically, Canada does only good in the world; our hands are clean as a riot whistle.

With regard to the amazing technical prowess of Daesh/ISIS, make of the following what you will, but note this section: The US government did not reply to multiple requests for comment on how these weapons wound up in the hands of Syrian rebels or in an ISIS munitions factory ... Other countries seem to be purchasing and diverting arms as well.
