Chrystia Freeland is a prime example of how hoodwinked the voter becomes as a result of relying on corporate news media for information so that they can vote intelligently.
Why did we have to hear about Freeland's personal war from Russia, and why is it being branded as a "smear campaign" when it is the truth?
I suppose one reason the corporate media don't say anything good about Russia is because the US can't seem to get a break in its aggressive exploits, including its long-standing history of interference in Ukraine.
From The Globe & Mail: Russian spies aimed to discredit WADA, spread disinformation about Canada with cyber campaigns
As I always say, be sure to note the final paragraph in any corporate news item, especially ones that contain a rationale for public brainwashing - Russia bad; everybody else (except China and North Korea) good, and America best:
Interesting use for the term "smear campaign". It was the truth, actually, a truth that our own media apparently kept from us, although it's not surprising that they would lovingly defend one of their own.
Until quite recently, Freeland herself was a journalist, and her husband works for the New York Times (Wiki). As a Ukrainian who hates Russia, and with an iffy family history, to say the least, she is not anywhere as objective as a Foreign Affairs Minister needs to be.
Sadly, the history of Ukraine is fraught with turmoil down through the centuries. But Freeland and the media allow us to think that all Ukrainians hate Russia. This is not so, or the current fracas could never have begun.
A Ukrainian woman confirmed for me that colour revolutions are US creations, and that there are many Ukrainians who natively speak Russian, observe Russian culture, and wish to be repatriated into their country of origin.
She is a fairly recent newcomer, not one of the Ukrainians who came to Canada as a child and have no first hand experience of the situation except what they've been taught to think. Her parents still live in Ukraine and she worries about them all the time.
In my opinion, Freeland is a big black mark against the Justin Trudeau government, and it points out quite clearly that Canadians, in general, haven't a clue about who precisely is acting on behalf of their country, if at all, or to what ultimate purpose.
But then, voters in general, regardless of what allegedly free country they reside in, are pretty much always in the dark about their so-called leaders.
And a particularly gruesome murder it was, but one in which Sarkozy's accomplice, Hillary Clinton, took a ghoulish delight.[YouTube 0:11]
Something else that few people know - From the Intercept:
Check out their website.
This is a scary version of the Project for a New American Century (PNAC) that made its appearance in a now defunct website during the lead-up to 9/ll.

Neither project has or ever had the aim of "securing democracy"; the aim has always been hegemony.
Leaders don't actually like democracy.* GW Bush virtually admitted that. [YouTube 0:05]
Democracy gets in the way of their ambitions. But they tell the voters what they need to hear, and blame Russia (or manufacture some other chimera) when what they've concealed becomes public.
America's need to dominate is a chronic illness, a paranoia in the extreme that doesn't care how many innocent people die in order to preserve its own image - a self-defeating effort which proves the pathology.
America's reputation is gradually crumbling before the eyes of anyone who has the eyes to see. Sadly, Canada is in danger of going down with it. Getting involved in a cold war - again - is a bad, bad move.
The farce of "securing democracy" is nothing but a cover for funnelling tax dollars into the lucrative business of weapons manufacturing and sales around the world. Israel, for instance, annually receives millions in tax payer's dollars, and in return buys weaponry from the US. See chart at bottom.
All of the countries the US has manufactured reasons to reduce to rubble have made it possible to enrich NGO's who charge huge dollars to do little or nothing in the way of reconstuction or other services.
In much the same manner, Obama's health care plan essentially ensured a robust marketplace for insurance companies, who have since raised their rates, on average as high as 50%.
In order to ensure public support of American/Israeli aggression, deliberate tactics of mass hypnosis are utilized.
I'm not making this up; most people are walking around mesmerized by what they see and hear on TV, where the news itself is a commercial in disguise, driven home by the playacting of popular news personalities, their body language, their tones of voice, ranging among breathless urgency, feigned surprise, hushed sadness, muted outrage ...
From The Conversation: Having seen how effective propaganda could be during war, [Psychiatrist Edward] Bernays wondered whether it might prove equally useful [to convince the average Joe/Josephine of practically anything] during peacetime.
Needless to say, Bernays became the guru of corporate sales departments:
You can see a perfect example of this [YouTube] in the kindly, warm and gentle, yet hypnotically repetitive commercials for Lucky Strike cigarettes in every episode of the old Jack Benny show.
Note how the impressive, suit-attired announcer literally caresses the cigarette in a prolonged closeup, as his treacly, yet authoritative voice encourages the poor dudes in shirtsleeves to brighten their hardworking lives with a Lucky moment. It's almost diabolical.

Consortium News: Same Old Media Parade: Why Are Liberals Cheering?
I’m worried about anti-Trump activists, even some quite progressive, who’ve come to see corporate news channels like CNN and MSNBC as their saviors. It’s a dangerous illusion.
* Was Bush Really a Champion of Democracy?
Neither Bush nor Obama gave democracy precedence.
