Too late to save politics!
From the Guardian:
We MPs must act quickly on sexual abuse or bring politics into disrepute
Having suffered unwanted attention from a male MEP with wandering hands, I know that workplace sexual harassment happens at all levels of government
Couldn't help it; I LOL'd at that headline - because it suggests that politics is NOT already in disrepute.
Oh, I see. It's written by a politician. Well, that explains it.
Most of us who have experienced sexual advances from our employers will never make headlines because neither we nor the weasles who did it to us are public figures. We never showed cleavage like the movie stars; we never tried to impress, except by doing our very best at what we were hired to do; we never idolized nor got crushes on our bosses because they were, well, our bosses, and not our idea of a potential lover - who, ideally would not boss us around.
Of all the jerks who came on to me in my younger working days, the one who did the least is the one I'd most like to strangle now if I had the chance. I think it's because it was so sneaky. He was the newly-appointed head of a university conference centre and as he entered the main office, he passed behind me and patted my behind.
I was so stunned I didn't react, and I wish to this day that I had flown into his face and told him never to do that again. There were other people there and he might have become embarrassed enough to think twice about his behavior.
Or he might have just played innocent and I would have looked like - well, you know what women are like - they throw fits for absolutely nothing; time of the month probably.
Anyway, I do believe the women who say they just froze, didn't react, didn't know what to do, because I've been there. I think the cause of their inaction is shock.
Yeah, there's no real justice for any woman who's experienced unwanted encroachments by men who have the power to hire and fire.
Our thanks should go out to all the men who treated us with respect, and as for those who didn't, there's a scripture verse that might be worthwhile for us to try to believe in: "Be sure your sins will find you out." Num. 32:23
Note: it doesn't say "God" or "Jesus" will find you out. The sin itself will find you out. You know what you did and you'll subconsciously set yourself up to pay for it.
Mark my words. (I'm old, so I get to say that.)
There is currently a petition asking PM Trudeau to telephone French Pres. Macron with regard to the spurious Hassan Diab case. Please consider signing.
