Justin Trudeau is forced to get bluntly specific about the "attestation" requirement on requests for government funding for certain summer jobs, while anti-abortion activists continue to play dumb.
Group at centre of summer jobs storm stirs debate over graphic anti-abortion images ... Canadian Centre for Bio-ethical Reform singled out by Justin Trudeau for 'hateful' flyers
I suspect the increasing noise from conservative Christians is just getting started here in Canada. Many US states have actually begun to negate "reproductive rights".
Trump campaigned on an anti-abortion platform, even though hundreds of thousands of women marched in protest:
Canada's new Federal Conservative Party leader will get strong support in the next election from the people by whom Trudeau is now being confronted. From Wikipedia it's clear that, as a staunch Catholic, he gives an excellent impression of being the anti-abortion/anti-gay activist's kindred spirit.
From the CBC: Opposition leader Andrew Scheer is accusing the Liberal government of "imposing" the prime minister's views on faith groups that fear they will be denied funding for summer jobs due to their positions on abortion.
And speaking of politics:
The Campaign Life Coalition has figured out how to get around the rules for tax exempt organizations in their "Political Activity: Do's & Don'ts for Churches" (pdf):
There's nobody cagier than a God-fearing political activist whose professed moral purity gets in the way of his deeper motives. A way has been found around the rules for tax-free status for churches, and now they are simply navigating around an additional hurdle.
CBC: Bible camps worry about losing Canada Summer Jobs money
But it seems to me that if they want to indoctrinate children at summer camps -- and of course to carefully handpick, for ideological compatibility, their government-funded employees -- maybe it's time that the dollars for what they choose to call "charitable" activities started coming from their own pockets rather than those of the average tax payer who may not agree with their Biblical interpretations.
Next we have the strange and convoluted arguments of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform.
From their Blog: We share a common belief that human rights belong to each and every one of us equally. But if not all humans are women, how can women's rights be the equivalent of human rights?
Huh? A woman is an individual. And according to The Charter Section 15:1 - Equality Rights:
And then the CCBR blogger goes on to express admiration for the protest sign of one of their members, which said: "Our liberation cannot be bought by the blood of our children."
A strange mantra indeed, given the huge numbers of our nation's children who have been sacrificed in the killing fields of foreign countries on behalf of "God and Country".
There's a photo I wanted to exhibit here, but it's a Geddy Image and they want $575.00 dollars for it. So here's the link to it instead.
The white crosses - - intended to mourn the deaths of babies by abortion - - are so evocative of a military cemetery that you'd have to wonder if it isn't some kind of weird Freudian slip!
Anyway, if you click on the below image you will find more food for thought.
